Some Materials require registration. By registering with PORT at the University of London (the University) you are giving consent to the University to use your personal information for the purposes set out below.

The information we collect

The SAS may collect, store and use the following kinds of personal information:

1. information about your computer and about your visits to and use of our websites. This data includes your IP address, geographical location, browser type and version, operating system, referral source, length of visit, page views, website navigation, and download activity from our websites;
2. information provided by you to us for the purpose of registration. Registration requires that you provide us with your First Name; Surname; email address; and usually Professional Status; Country; and Institutional Affiliation;
3. any other information that you choose to send to us.

We will not use this data for profit or disclose any information to third parties unless required to do so by law. The information is gathered purely for statistical and archival purposes. The only exception is the gathering of general statistics regarding user activity.  These statistics will not disclose private or specific information regarding individual users.

Cookies

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files used by a website to 'request' information from your website or mobile device browser, return the information to the website and then store the information. Cookies can be requested by any website and are placed on your device’s hard drive. Cookies allow the web application to tailor its operations to your needs, likes and dislikes by gathering and remembering information about your preferences.

How do we use cookies?

We only collect personally non-identifiable information for reporting and analysis purposes from these two sources:

Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. Google Analytics, to collect information in an anonymous form on how visitors use our site.
You can opt out from being tracked by Google Analytics by installing this Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

YouTube
We embed videos from YouTube using YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode. This mode may set cookies on your computer once you click on the YouTube video player, but YouTube will not store personally-identifiable cookie information for playbacks of embedded videos using the privacy-enhanced mode. We may collect the following information using Google Analytics or YouTube:

- number of visitors incl. unique visitors to the site
- number of page views
- time spent viewing pages
- type of browsers used to view the site
- number of video downloads
- age groups, origin and gender of people viewing our videos

We collect and analyse this information to understand your needs and provide you with a better service by making improvements to our website.

We also use these statistics in reporting on our activities to our UK funders i.e. Higher Education Funding Council for England.

We will not disclose this information to third parties (except as specified above).

Hotjar

We use Hotjar in order to better understand our users’ needs and to optimize this service and experience. Hotjar is a technology service that helps us better understand our users’ experience (e.g. how much time they spend on which pages, which links they choose to click, what users do and don’t like, etc.) and this enables us to build and maintain our service with user feedback. Hotjar uses cookies and other technologies to collect data on our users’ behavior and their devices. This includes a device's IP address (processed during your session and stored in a de-identified form), device screen size, device type (unique device identifiers), browser information, geographic location (country only), and the preferred language used to display our website. Hotjar stores this information on our behalf in a pseudonymized user profile. Hotjar is contractually forbidden to sell any of the data collected on our behalf.
