4.5 Virtual Libraries
A multilingual catalogue of online resources. This is a search engine that allows you to scour all major virtual libraries for texts and authors, not only in the original language but also in translations. A true resource - the kingdom of online texts as they call themselves!
Project Gutenberg is the oldest producer of free electronic books (e-books or e-texts) on the internet. Its collection of more than 15 000 e-books was produced by hundreds of volunteers. Most of the Project Gutenberg e-books are older literary works that are in the public domain in the United States, but there are more than 50 texts available in German and many German authors in English translation.
Amongst other language literature collections and a virtual museum, this site allows you to access either alphabetically or chronologically samples of German literature from the 8th to the 20th century.
Das Deutsche Digitale Zeitschriftenarchiv is a service which offers free access to a limited collection of German journals in different areas of expertise (or on a subscription fee extended use of all their resources).
IntraText is a full-text digital library committed to accuracy, accessibility and usability, offering texts and corpora as lexical hypertexts. Their on-line texts are organized in a way that you can easily retrieve intra-textual information such as for example the frequency of certain words in the text. Wolfenbütteler Digitale Bibliothek - WDB
This online library of the Herzog August Bibliothek presents facsimile editions of selected items from its medieval and early modern collections which are rare, outstanding, frequently used, or currently most relevant for research. The library holds collections such as the 'Bibliotheca Julia', the 'Bibliotheca Augusta, the 'Fürstenbibliotheken des 17. und 18. Jahrhunderts'.
