4.4 Metaopacs

British META-OPACs

The most searched British META-OPAC. It contains the online catalogue of 22 of the largest university research libraries in the UK and Ireland, plus the British Library catalogue.


Die Digitale Bibliothek - das universale Portal des Wissens. This is a search engine which will allow you to undertake meta-investigations of several German libraries at once at a regional, national and international level (however, for international parallel searches, we recommend using the KVK listed below). DigiBib is an online project of theHochschulbibliothekszentrum of Nordrhein-Westfalen (HBZ) in Cologne. When you arrive at the log-in page, you will be asked to select an institution (Einrichtung auswählen). Select 'Extern' and you can enter the site as a guest, even if you are not registered as a student at a German university.

bibvb - METAOPAC Österreichischen Bibliothekenverbundes 
This is Austria's META-OPAC embracing the online catalogues of the National Library, of University Libraries, research institutes, etc.

WEBIS Regionalbibliographien
This site has been set up by the Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Hamburg. It will allow you to access the bibliographies of the different German regions. The bibliographies contain information on regional literatures and historical figures. The WEBIS page allows you to undertake searches by selecting specific regions.

Virtuelle Deutsche Landesbibliographie
A project organized by the AG Regionalbibliographie and the UB Karlsruhe, this META-OPAC facilitates the simultaneous scouring of individual or several regional bibliographies at once.

WLB Regionalbibliographien
This work-in-progress site of the Württembergische Landesbibliothek Stuttgart comprizes not only links to the bibliographies of the different German regions, but also allows you access to regions in Switzerland and Austria.

Karlsruhe Virtueller Katalog - KVK
The wonderful University of Karlsruhe Virtual Catalogue allows you to search all the major libraries and national opacsin the world at once. You can also select various regional catalogues in Germany, or select specific countries. Easy to use, flexible and highly productive.
