## Exercise 4: Making a Correlation

exercise 4

### 2. Visualise the Data

Start by visualising the data. For this case we want a scatter
plot – a chart where two variables are plotted on the *x*
and *y* axes and each dot represents one case. Go to the
**Chart Builder** and select **Scatter/Dot**. From the
**Variable** window drag **BODYFAT t**o the *x*-axis
and **ADIPOSITY** to the *y*-axis.

Click **OK**.

Does there seem to be a relationship between adiposity and body
fat measurement? There appears to be a general linear trend: As
one increases, so too does the other. The correlation is
**positive**, i.e. the trend slopes from bottom-left to
top-right. The cases are clustered pretty closely. Knowing the
value of one would enable you to predict fairly well – but not
exactly – the value of the other.
