    A selection of video clips offering advice and guidance to research students approaching their PhD viva or preparing for post-doctoral job interviews in academia and beyond.

    • Students will find these interviews useful for information about doctoral research in the Arts and Humanities and in particular for Modern Languages. However, the films date from 2012 (when the IMLR was known as the IGRS). Although the interviews are still useful, students should ensure they consult their own institutions’ rules and regulations for doctoral study. SAS students should refer to the SAS Quality Assurance Framework for Postgraduate Teaching October 2019.

    • These video clips were produced in 2008 to offer advice and guidance to research students. The aim is to provide input from both sides of the table: they feature viva examiners, supervisors and experienced interviewers as well as those who have recently got their PhDs. If you are looking for general advice in dealing with an interdisciplinary topic, approaching your viva or life after the PhD, these clips can help guide you through the planning and processes.
