Module 1: Understanding Data
The data lifecycle is a useful way of conceptualising your research in its widest possible terms. Although this section focuses on theory, it is useful to pause for a moment and think about the entire process involved in researching. Whilst reading about the lifecycle think about your own project and try to map it onto the idea of a lifecycle. You don’t need to spend too long on this, but think about it at the very least as this will help you think about all the different aspects of your research now and should help to save you time and effort in the future.
To find out more about the data management lifecycle and how that meshes onto your work as an historian read through the following book.
If you would like to learn more about the data management lifecycle then the UK Data Archive Create and Manage Data pages are very useful in explaining further the idea of a lifecycle to research. Take a look here: The UK Data Archives - Life-cycle
