What is a data model? Modelling constitutes an injunction to
think logically and structurally. The data model is the
abstraction of your research; it is a visual representation of
your information system, and how the bits of information are
connected. Data modelling starts with markup, as markup is
the way you characterise texts and metadata for your
information system. The lecture below surveys the concept of
markup as well as its current formats in digital media.
