This module surveys the traditions and principles of scholarly editing and textual studies, complemented with training in the fundamentals of building digital editions. It aims to complement theory and practice, informing questions of how to edit a text with why we edit texts. In addition to an understanding of the history of editorial practice, the study of manuscripts, and theories of editing, attendees will also be able to encode documents in XML with the the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) standards.
